Enrolling is simpler than you’d expect.

No entrance tests, no waiting rooms. A visit, a look at a real classroom, and a short application — that’s it.

The process

Four steps from curious to first day.

Schedule your school tour

Tell us a little about your child through our short inquiry form, or call Director Lori Haag directly. We’ll arrange a personal visit at a time that works around your morning.

Visit and observe a classroom

After we meet, we invite you to observe one of our classrooms. You’ll notice how our instructors interact with the children — and how well the children interact, self-direct their activities, share with others and learn at their own pace.

Complete your application

Once you decide to enrol your child, you’ll complete a short application for admission. We’ll confirm your child’s class and walk you through what to bring on the first day.

Welcome to John Knox

Your child joins a class of no more than twelve or fourteen children, with at least two qualified teachers. Classes begin in September and run through mid-May.

What to expect on your tour.

Tours are personal, unhurried and led by our director. Bring your child — watching them in the room tells you more than any brochure.

  • A walk through the classrooms, learning centres and large-muscle space.
  • A chat about your child — what they love, what they find hard, how they separate.
  • An honest answer on class availability for the coming September.
  • The daily routine, drop-off and pick-up, and how we handle the first few weeks.
  • An invitation to observe a class in session before you decide.

Common questions

Answers before you ask.

How old does my child need to be?
We accept children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. Children in the two-day class will be three years old by September 1st; children in the three-day class will be four years old by September 1st.
Does my child need to be toilet-trained?
Yes. State licensing requires that all children must be toilet-trained before they start.
When does the school year run?
Classes meet from September through mid-May. Days off and school breaks are based on the North Olmsted City School calendar.
Do we have to be members of the church?
Not at all. The school is a non-profit, half-day school serving members and friends of John Knox Presbyterian Church and residents of the community. We welcome students regardless of race, gender, national and ethnic origin, and are non-discriminatory in all our policies.
How many children are in a class?
A maximum of twelve in the three-year-old class and fourteen in the four and five year old class, each with at least two qualified teachers.
Can I see a classroom before I decide?
Yes, and we recommend it. After your tour and meeting we invite you to observe one of our classrooms while class is in session.
What are the office hours?
We’re open Monday to Wednesday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, and Thursday and Friday 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. You can also reach Director Lori Haag on 216-965-4394 or email info@jkpreschool.org.
